Forrest Yoga is a unique style of yoga created by Ana Forrest.  It’s unique because it focuses on some of the most fundamental problems that we have in western society: tight necks, low back pain, stress, and disconnection from our bodies and our spirits.

In Forrest Yoga, I teach neck release techniques in every pose. When you release tension from this important passageway, the neck, you clear the way for the intelligence of your brain to communicate with the wisdom of your body. You become more whole. Forrest Yoga emphasizes this crucial connection between brain and body.

In my classes, you’ll work your abdominals! The Forrest Yoga abs exercises were created to warm the core for the rest of the poses, build strength to support the lower back, and create fluidity in the abs rather than rigidity. The internal organs and intestines benefit from the deep massage-like exercise you’ll do to keep energy from getting stuck. You’ll integrate the energy you generate in your abs throughout the rest of the body, allowing you to move with power and grace.

Proper breathing techniques and the way Forrest Yoga classes are “sequenced” are the keys to learning how to change habitual behavior patterns, heal your body, and feel really great. You’ll learn how to breathe in a way that gives you more energy, sharpens your focus, and cleanses every cell in your body. The pose sequences are created to help you wake up areas in your body that have been numbed from injury or tension and bring in new vitality and aliveness there. I give you quality hands-on assists to help you feel where your body needs more breath and attention.

Flexibility is not a prerequisite!  The point of beginning a yoga practice is often to learn how to move safely into stretches and “poses” in order to begin opening up the muscles. Many students find that they also learn how to breathe more fully in their daily living, and they are pleasantly surprised at how much strength and balance they gain by practicing yoga.

Forrest Yoga invites people of all levels of fitness and all ages to enjoy the benefits of yoga.

As a beginner to Forrest Yoga, you learn to breathe deeply and connect in feeling with your body. As you progress, you get proficient at safely tailoring each pose to work best for you, particularly with physical and emotional injuries. Learning to work honestly at your edges, you develop effective tools to deal with fear and struggle. This makes it possible for integrity, self-awareness, and playful curiosity to become a part of your daily life.

Forrest Yoga is healing yoga. Forrest Yoga instructors conduct the classes with respect and gentleness toward each student, focusing on each student’s physical and energetic requirements.

Boutique Yoga

I offer what I call “boutique yoga.”  With boutique yoga, class size is limited.  This means you gain the benefits of personalized attention and assistance that normally happen in a private lesson setting without paying the full price of private instruction.  My classes are planned in advance with the specific needs of the attendees in mind and are designed to be engaging, challenging to your appropriate level, and safe. Private instruction is particularly beneficial when you are new to yoga and learning basic techniques and/or as you accumulate questions about poses and techniques being taught in class.  For more information about class times, find my calendar here.

Private Lessons

Private instruction carries with it the benefits of convenience and privacy. Your lessons can be scheduled into your life should the days and times of group classes be inconvenient. Private lessons are extremely helpful if you have specific questions about yoga poses or techniques that you would like to improve. They are also greatly beneficial in working with an injury or an illness that you long to heal.

Private instruction can happen on a continual basis or as you feel a desire to move your practice up to the next level. Contact me to schedule a lesson.

Group Classes

The environment of my group classes is one of nurturance, acceptance, and fun! While I don’t adhere to strict or formal etiquette, I do request that students set a strong intention to arrive 10 minutes early in order to settle in and be ready to begin on time. For the consideration of all students, please be fragrance-free.  I want my classes to feel accessible to all and intimidating to none.

Classes are designed to be engaging, challenging to your appropriate level, and safe. Within a class you can expect to improve your breath power and flexibility while gaining strength. My objective is to bring your body to life so you leave class feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and ever so grateful to be alive!
